Well much as expected, the uk was cloud covered for yesterday's eclipse.
However lots of good pics from around the world and Google have a delightful home page with a complete viewing video.......there will be lots on U Tube I'm sure.....but here, well as I am still trying to work out how to set up the microfocuser I look to the web for closeups ha ha....I will crack it one day............

Meanwhile the shed roof is still smiling.... and this should all have been on Jim's Astronomy Stuff blog !! ........

With regard to the weather....well it is anybodies guess really....

Or not ! !

Having checked with my newly aquired orienteering compass ( a leaving pressy on finishing work from lovely colleagues.... many thanks..) anyway, when I checked for North, well it would appear that I am some 12 degrees out...........and I have moved the rain guage........so I fear my data is less than accurate, meterologically speaking......Memo to me....must reset the equipment...now where have I put the instructions ? ? ?...... In the meantime here is todays weather...or not...! ! ! . Ah well.......with no wind, direction doesn't really matter ha! Unlike the tornadoes I am just hearing about in North Carolina...... Halesowen will do me fine thank you..

Well the forcast said sunny and the weather was perfect to open up the telescope and get it connected and moving. photos to come....

Todays chart says just how it has been, blue skies all day, warm in the sunshine....shiverin in the shade harumph harumph. Now the full moon bright and clear.
And so I got the telescope out of its shed today, really its taking the shed from round the scope cos the telescope is fixed on a concrete pillar.....shock proof ! ! and the shed dismantles at the turn of a few heave ho's. Anyway Jims Meade LX200GPS has made its next moves today.....a lot to find out about the Autostar 2, connections to the laptop........they all look the same these connection cables......wheres the extension lead........what does this bit connect to.....what IS this bit....thank goodness for the internet...all questions resolved....power pack charging up ............programmes loaded on to laptop.........checked outdoor wifi..........all systems ready to go. Tomorow allegedly the moon is closest to earth forsome time/years? well a good time to have a go I think. The slideshow is of skies from Jim's Observatory Shed.....
Still stunned at the ferociousness of the weather .......
In the meantime, here's some quiet skies ....just remembering....

A cold-n-frosty mornin

Well not as cold as december by a long haul, but a surprise at frost this morining and another grey sky......yesterday, however, ended up lovely sunshine...oh what fun the weather is in the UK....always a surprise ha ha
todays data:-

This the first time that the forcast has shown snow (top left hand box with cloud image) and the pressure is a definate downward trend (bar chart under it) no wind, no rain....wonder how it will end up ???????

Anyway have a good day....

Friday, 4 March 2011

On this grey, still, no wind, no clouds sort of a day and whilst I await info from the Irox support team. Just a little reminder of how cold it has been, but how beautiful it all looked.....The icicles were next door, the longest about 4ft. Another one seen at 2 stories where the Wildrose is parked,. Fabulous frost on my windscreen, not seen very often so I couldnt resist a couple of pics of the swirls before they melted away with the heat from my breath.....

Learning fast

But first, this mornings data:- .....I quite like the simple display and its easy to read.... The pressure is an interesting shape.....changeable ?????? ha, what fun this all is (click on image for beter view). Temperature, just the opposite at a steady cold.........wont pack away the woolies yet eh!

However the computer program seems to be less than helpful with information on organising it all and I have so far been unable yet to input our exact location Its all based on Birmingham coordinates. I also seem to be unable to delete some data from the spreadsheet recordings.....oooooh dontcha jest larve a good spreadsheet ha ha..... well I do usually. Anyway remember I tested the rain guage with a cup of water last week....still showing as a tower over the 2.1mm that is real....... and I cant get it removed.......yet.......I am hoping that the tech support will be more informative than the PC version !!!!!!!!

So heres todays slideshow, hope you like, (appologies about the music, have to pay if I want to use my own tracks, so just switch orf yer speakers B4 it drives you mad)

I have a feeling that these will be a regular feature......especially on boring all grey days like today.

The Weather Station Arrives

First look at the weather center display !!!!! ha ha Double click on the image to get a clearer view. Note the rather high amount of rainfall was caused by my pouring water into the collector to see if it was working.......hm.

Intro

Well I have just recieved my very first weather station, thank you Red Onions for swift delivery and phone bacup. Well this is an irox Pro x2 job and it all looks rather efficient and easy to set up but its going to be a while before I get the instruments into position and myself up and running.
My inspiration came from the BBC program "What is one degree" brilliant stuff, however it pointed me to the met office web site and their soon to be operational web of urban home weather stations.......sounds like something interesting I thought to myself, and would give me an edge !!!!!! ha ha when I start up the telescope ...... and thats another story yet to unfold. I am a novice at it all, but for me its Play Time Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee
In the meantime .... here are some skiescapes from loft facing East and when I have cracked this weather station thing I will be back.........
